Carrboro is located next to Chapel Hill and is a favorite place for UNC students because of its variety of restaurants and local venues. Many of the local restaurants feature chef-inspired menus that are created from organic, locally grown vegetables and meats from the Carrboro's Farmers Market. Art and theater venues include the Cat's Cradle, the Carrboro Arts Center, and the DSI Comedy Theater - so there is always something of interest. Each year the town also hosts a two-day music festival and a film festival.
Housing in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area varies from small rental homes near the university to large luxurious estates in the outlying areas. The home prices in this area reflect the proximity to UNC and tend to be higher priced than in other parts of Orange County. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District is known as one of the best school districts in the state of North Carolina. There are four high schools in the district – Carrboro High School, Chapel Hill High School, East Chapel Hill High School and Middle College High School. There are also two public charter schools (Woods Charter (PK-12) and Willow Oak Montessori (1-6)) and several private schools (Emerson Waldorf (PK-12), Montessori Day School (NS-6),and St. Thomas More Catholic School (PK-8)) in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. Chapel Hill and Carrboro have numerous daycare facilities available for the working family.
